Before Contraception
Naturopathic Pre-natal care can begin at just the thought of conception, or, in an ideal world, 3 to 6 months before conception. There are approaches you can do to prepare both you and your partner’s bodies to help improve the chances of conception, the healthy maintenance of a pregnancy, and to deliver a healthy baby. If concerns arise, then we have an early opportunity to explore the root cause of the problem, and set a treatment plan towards a solution promptly.
Naturopathic medicine also provides recommendations for contraception options, assisting your body from transitioning off of birth control, regulating your menstrual cycle, prenatal supplementation, as well as for the improvement of sperm parameters including motility, morphology, and count.
During Pregnancy
After conception, our Naturopath will work with the birthing parent to ensure that they are receiving adequate nutrition and necessary supplementation to promote healthy development. Naturopathic Medicine can help you to make informed decisions along your journey, answer any questions you may have, and work to provide safe and appropriate support through naturopathic therapies for any problems that may arise during the pregnancy.
- Prenatal supplements
- Morning sickness
- Heartburn
- Encouraging movement of a breech baby
- Acute conditions
- Encouraging labour when past due date
- Education & preparation
Leading up to the birth, support can also be provided as a Naturopathic Doula, in addition to individualized care around Breastfeeding both before and after the birth. The goal is to support the birthing parents in whatever capacity they may need.
Post-Natal Care
While the pregnancy portion may be over, that is only just the beginning! Naturopathic support can be provided around helping you transition to your “new-normal” and any challenges that may arise, including, but not limited to:
- Breastfeeding
- Postpartum Depression
- Improve energy
- Nutrition recommendations
Well Child Checks are also an important foundation to health and ensuring everything is on track and for preparing for the future. These checks are provided starting at 3 months of age.
Chiropractic Care During and After Pregnancy
Pregnancy and childbirth bring many changes to your body. It’s common for women to experience back pain during the pre-natal period as ligaments loosen, the baby grows and your center of gravity shifts. It’s also common to experience back pain discomfort in the post-natal stage as ligaments tighten again and weight and posture changes.
Fortunately, there are things you can do to help alleviate back pain during pre- and post-natal stages. Body pillows may help with nighttime comfort. Pain may also be alleviated by applying heat to the sore area.
Chiropractic and Massage Therapy may also help. Studies on pre-natal and post-natal Chiropractic care indicate that Chiropractic treatments can help women enjoy a healthy and more comfortable pregnancy. Chiropractic care can also help reduce reliance on medications. Chiropractors can provide advice on nutrition, exercise and ergonomic adjustments to help you enjoy a health pregnancy.
